I'm pretty sure if I mention the phrases "from the dandelion family" and "coffee alternative" in the same sentence - it probably wouldn't sound very sensational. However, about a year ago I tried this root as a coffee alternative and though it doesn't REALLY taste like coffee .... I do like it as a coffee substitute, and I love coffee! Its hard to describe the flavor, its a tiny bit more "nutty" than coffee is, and a bit more earthy as well.
To brew, its a simple pour hot water over the root, let it steep for about 2 minutes. Discard the chicory pieces, add cream and sugar as desired.
Please be aware that there is NO CAFFEINE in this product. What it does have, however, is quite unique! Naturally high in fiber, vitamin C and inulin (great for digestion). Do a bit of reading on chicory root, it has several health benefits that might just make you try this as a coffee alternative.
