100% pure vitamin C in powder form. This additive is water-soluble and highly antioxidant. Vitamin C is not only good for your insides, but its also quite important to your overall skin health. It plays a role in water retention (meaning skin is tighter and firming looking) - reducing the appearance of fine lines and early stages of wrinkles. It is light sensitive, so the more you are out in the sun (or using a tanning bed) the less your skin can retain of its own naturally occurring vitamin C.
Over time our skin loses the ability to create collagen, thus we begin to see fine lines and wrinkles. Studies on topical application of collagen are somewhat vague. One study will show you that topical use of collagen is absorbed and retain naturally - but other studies point to the fact that topical collagen is just that ... something that sits on top of your skin and is not really absorbed through the layers. What has been proven, however, is that topical applications of vitamin C (or ascorbic acid) helps our bodies to produce and retain our own collagen. Even better .... it helps diminish the visible "age spots" that can also come with maturing skin.
One downside with ascorbic acid that should be noted is that once its introduced to water, it will degrade over a short amount of time. Using a preservative system that contains "fatty acids" will greatly help keep the ascorbic acid "active" within a waterborne system. Also, storing it in dark colored glass to keep out excessive light will help as well. Adding this powder to a oil based recipe that contains no water, it will not suffer the same activity loss.
One vitamin that goes "extra great" with Vitamin C, is Vitamin E. Simply add a small bit of C to Vitamin E, and you have one terrific facial product. If Vitamin E is too sticky for you ... incorporate both into any sort of carrier oil - jojoba, extra virgin olive oil, etc. This will reduce the stickiness.
As Dr. Oz has toted on his show ... vitamin C is one of the "secrets" to younger looking skin. The length of time for the results to show, will depend upon each person. Some will see benefits in as little as 2 weeks, others may take 8 weeks. But with continued use over a period of 6 months, you will see your skins maximum benefit to this treatment.
