This finely ground powder comes from the seeds of plants grown in India. It's used in the cosmetic industry as an emulsifier and thickening agent. It's ability to thicken products is about 8x's stronger than corn starch or flour and does not need to be heated.

You can safely use this powder in homemade toothpastes as this product is also "food grade" quality. Herbalists use guar gum as a laxative, appetite suppressant and to treat peptic ulcers (although recipes should be followed carefully if you plan to use this product this way). It's also a stabilizer in foods and beverage items.
